It gives me immense pleasure to observe establishment of the Centre
for Independence and Partition Studies by the University of Delhi
under Ordinance-XX of the Ordinances of the University. This noble
initiative is an endeavour to enlighten the youth whose aspirations
for future must be rooted in a comprehensive and authentic
understanding of our past.
The Centre, with its multidisciplinary approach, is expected to focus
on various aspects of our struggle for independence, the partition,
its underlying causes and its far-reaching impact. In due course of
time, the Centre has the potential to emerge as a specialized research
and resource Centre to facilitate such studies through field research,
deliberations on available archival resources and collection of oral
histories among other such initiatives.
I extend my best wishes for a glorious future of this Centre with the
hope that it will prove to be a vibrant Centre for quality research
and dissemination of truthful knowledge in the respective knowledge
domains.
